We appreciate your participation in this session, and we hope you found the session helpful and of value. As promised, we are pleased to offer additional resources to support your study and reflection.
Resilience and wellbeing are intricate subjects that continue to evolve with ongoing research and diverse perspectives. Our current standpoint can be summarised as follows: "If it's not broken, don't try to fix it." In other words, if you feel that you are effectively managing life's stressors, enjoying restful sleep, and deriving satisfaction from both your personal and professional life, it may be best not to make significant changes. However, if you find yourself occasionally overwhelmed by stress, lacking time for physical activity, experiencing an imbalance between work and personal life, or struggling with sleep quality, it might be worth considering some adjustments.
Our objective is to provide you with a well-founded and tested framework that allows you to explore your self-awareness, habits, and personal growth. This framework is rooted in the neurophysiology of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which, when functioning optimally, equips us with self-regulating mechanisms to adapt and become more resilient in the face of stress. The chronic accumulation of stress or traumatic incidents can dysregulate the ANS, diminishing our ability to manage stress, adapt, and develop resilience. Ultimately, this can hinder performance in various domains of life, drain our energy, and manifest in complex and subtle ways. In today's world, environmental stressors often create a constant feeling of being on the go, even if our stressors are not particularly severe. Consequently, we can unknowingly remain in the sympathetic branch of our nervous system for extended periods, leading to unnecessary fatigue. Therefore, even in milder cases, it is essential to recognise the wellbeing risks associated with prolonged fatigue and inadequate rest, sleep, and recovery.
A key message to consider is the importance of the recovery aspect in the equation:
Stress + Recovery = Resilience
While stress will always be a part of our lives, it can be effectively managed and utilised for positive growth when we understand how to recover effectively. Further details on this concept are provided in the links below.
If you are interested in delving deeper into any specific aspect covered during this session, please feel free to ask for recommendations. While there isn't a single book that encompasses all of our content, there are reputable specialists with expertise in different areas. We have compiled our own resources to assist you, and you can find explanations and links to access them below.
Please contact jo@7futures.com if you have any general enquiries, or nathan@7futures.com for any personal enquiries as this topic can have a sensitive nature, specifically around trauma, which can raise further questions.
